Everything you need to know about portrait sessions

Looking for a portrait photographer can be a little overwhelming. There are a lot of options out there, everyone has their own style, different print & product options, and personalities. It can be hard to know who to contact and what to expect when you do decide to book. I’ve been there and I wanted to make this page available to give you some insight into how a session with me flows; to give you an idea of what to expect even before we talk one on one!

So you’ve had a look around my web page, scrolled through my gallery portfolios, perhaps looked over the session fee investments and peeked in on my Facebook page, what’s next?

Planning Your Session

You can send me a message through the ‘Contact Me’ link in the top right or email me at info@tiffanyrosephotography.ca . I do my best to reply to emails within 72 hours, if you have not received a reply please pop over to my Facebook page and send me a nudge, I may be having technical difficulties and not know about it!

We’ll talk a little about what you are looking for, specifically session type and date. I will be there to answer any questions you have about session investments, products, timelines and the session itself. When you are ready to book I will send over a portrait contract/booking agreement and payment details for the session fee, once these two items are complete the session is considered booked. In situations where we do not have an exact date (example: newborn portraits booked prior to baby’s arrival) I will pencil in your Guess Date (aka: due date) and we will finalize closer to.

Once the session is booked we will get into the details a little more; going into style options such as colours, props (if applicable) and special requests. This can be done in person, over the phone or online via email, whichever is easiest for you; depending on the session type, this conversation could be 5 minutes or 30 minutes. I am available to answer any questions right up to your session date, just send me a message!

At Your Session

The day of your session has arrived and all you have to do is relax! I will capture both posed and natural/relaxed portraits during our session. I will ask for a variety of expressions and we will keep moving and trying things. Be yourself! That is the icing on the cake! The more relaxed you are the more you will shine.  I ask all kinds of questions as we get to know each other and plan the session but remember – you know yourself (& your family) better than I do. If you prefer to be photographed from one ‘side’ or you’re husband looks the most natural and happy after a few bad jokes, or maybe your son or daughter is a huge fan of Paw Patrol – let me know! Tidbits like this help me to ensure I’m capturing the moment and your spirits as they are!

The Wait (don’t worry, it will be worth it!)

After your session I start the majority of the work behind the scenes – selecting the best portraits and editing. You can trust that I will show all the best portraits and that I will delete the blinks, the mouth open in mid sentences and the unflattering angles. Basic edits will be done on all the best portraits and your proof gallery will be uploaded with those portraits. I do my best to get the proof galleries uploaded within a week of your session but this timeline may change, I will do my best to keep you in the loop. I’m still finding my style but as a general rule of thumb (as you can see in my portfolio galleries) my edits are simple, clean and classic.

Selecting Your Portraits

Once your proof gallery is uploaded I will send you a private gallery link to view and select your portraits. When you log into the gallery you will enter your email address, this will enable you to select ‘favourites’ and come back another time to make your final selection from those portraits flagged. Keep in mind that only basic edits are done on the proof gallery; portraits selected for purchase will be edited in full. Minor skin editing will be done to address blemishes & scratches in the finished portraits, if you are looking for more in depth editing please let me know so we can discuss your desires. Body sculpting is not something included in my standard editing. I believe that we are all beautiful and want to do my best to show you the beauty I see when I photograph you so that you are empowered when you see the portraits. That been said, if you are insecure about something please either put it on your questionnaire or mention it to me so that I can choose poses & angles most flattering for you. You will have two (2) weeks to view the portraits in your private gallery and place your order. If you have any questions during this time I am available to chat!

Receiving Your Portraits

After you place your order, I will start the process of editing and ordering any printed product you’ve selected. Every portrait chosen will be edited in full for crop, sharpness, colour and tone based on the product or print size selected. You will receive a proof to approve on items such as collages, cards, albums and special edits (from stylized sessions).
Digital print file orders take 2-4 weeks to be processed, depending on order size, complexity and location in the editing queue. Orders are processed in the order received and I will do my best to communicate where your order is in the editing queue. All portraits are edited one by one, taking anywhere from 5 to 60+ minutes per edit, design time for products such as collages or greeting cards is in addition to this.
Printed products are order through professional labs to ensure consistent quality and to ensure that, with care, these items will last a lifetime so you can share them with future generations. Printed products, will take 2-8 weeks for production (after editing time) depending on the product ordered. Once I quality check the received prints & products, I will contact you for pick up. The items will be available for pick up at the studio; if you would like your portrait order shipped to you (or a family member) instead please let me know when ordering and I will get a shipping quote to you.

What’s Next?

Well, that’s easy…sit back and enjoy your portraits!!

Although my packages are now inclusive with digital files I am a huge advocate for portraits being printed and enjoyed. As such I will continue to offer a selection of prints and products for clients as discounted add-ons to their digital packages. Why you ask? Well, digital files are great but technology changes, computers crash, USBs become corrupt and CDs break or becoming dusty and forgotten in a drawer. It is sad but it happens, and most often it happens without notice. Portraits are meant to be enjoyed for generations and I want to make that happen. I love when my clients want to share their portraits online and encourage you to tag your sneak peeks and share them with family and friends.

If you have any questions at all about a session please use the Contact Me button above.

Let’s make some memories! ♥
